Repairing Cracks in Your Driveway. Cracks up to one inch wide can be repaired with a pourable or tubed asphalt patch product. (Note that a tubed product requires a caulk gun for application.) Remove all dirt and vegetation from the crack with a wire brush, screwdriver, or trowel tool.
Now fill the crack with a cold process asphalt repair compound, such as blacktop. Compact the compound with a tamper or a 4x4 wooden post. After compacting, you may need to add more blacktop or compound material and repeat the tamping process to ensure a consistent, level driveway.
Fill the cracks up with asphalt crack filler so the filler is level with the surrounding surface. Some fillers are liquid that is squeezed from a bottle, some are squeezed from a cartridge in a caulking gun and others are ropes of filler that you lay down and push into the cracks.

Squeeze the caulking gun trigger steadily as you pull the tip along the crack. If using pourable filler, fill the crack and smooth away excess with a putty knife. Be sure to keep the filler in the crack, not on the driveway surface. For cracks ½" to 2" wide, fill the crack with non-porous foam backer rod material before applying crack filler.
